Is Sashiko Art...? We humbly accept the admiration from the public saying “The Sashiko is (Fine) Art”. However, I personally feel uncomfortable considering “Sashiko” as (Fine) Art for several reasons. *I shared the reasons of why I do not consider Sashiko as Fine art on our website here.
Well, however, it is important to “expand” the comfort zone.
This item is one of my first try to mix the Sashiko with “artistic” perspective I define. It can be used for mending or patch-working, anything for your stitching project. However, I would prefer a customer who find the value as Art from this piece, and possibly frame it and keep it as the Art.
Yes. I am aware that I am contradicting myself. I always say that Sashiko is a form of "ordinary stitching for someone" and it is not Fine Art because the main purpose was not for being admired (displayed) as Art. The Sashiko stitching should be used as "fabric" and the true beauty is there. I have not changed my mind. This is one thing I did to expand my comfortable zone - which means I am not comfortable doing it... yet. You may fine a letter of "あ". It will be my signature, and when I make an Art piece, I will use this letter to promote myself as an Artist. Well. Let's see what is going to happen.
